Intel VP John Devais

The first seminar of John Devais started 9 in the morning at BICC’s Fall of Fame. Dr. Jafar iqbal, famous sci-fi writer of Bangladesh, hosted the seminar. John Devais shared his life story with the audience. Good number of questions came from the audience including opening Intel R&D office in Bangladesh. John Devais gave hope about those issues.

Second seminar was at 11 with jam-packed seminar room. oDesk COO cum VP Matt Cooper, renowned freelancer Bernard Vukas and local freelancer Al-Amin were speakers of the seminar. Matt Cooper shared data on Bangladesh’s growth on the largest freelancing site till today. Bernard Vukas shared his story of starting freelancing and who he reached position he is in today. Al-Amin gave some tips to the audience. The QA session was full of questions including paypal in Bangladsh. If you don’t know, Paypal is not available in Bangladesh yet. Bangladesh’s ICT minister Yafes Osman answered about the topic behalf of the Govt. Session ended after a roar for PayPal from the audience. This video is taken by Bernard Vukas himself.

The expo part of the conference ended at 2pm. Bangladesh president announced the conference end in the closing ceremony at evening.

First day of the event was really nice. At first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, inaugurated the show. Then the expo begins with more than 100 exhibitors. 5 seminars were going on at a time so it’s a problem if you want to attend more than one.

Many foreign countries like Malaysia, Holland, Japan, Sri-lanka participated in the event. Govt. offices and ministries also have stalls in the exhibition.

Some of the seminars are really went awesome. Most of the speakers are from foreign countries and employee of giants like Ericsson or local mobile operator GP (brand of Telenor).

There was some error in arrangements on the first day. Registration process was also not smooth. But I’m looking forward for next 2 days of the event.

But most of the bloggers didn’t made much from blogging. The internet is powerful today just because we have some extrordanary bloggers. I even know bloggers how didn’t had a computer and gone to some cyber cafe, pay from pocket money just to blog something !

I am not saying everyone is posting for free. But believe me most of the people are. You can see Google or some kinds of ads in almost every blog. But in most of the cases, if a blogger is posting for good initiative, he doesn’t make anything from blogging.

Flattr.com, a online pay for content initiative started the “Pay A Blogger Day”. The day is a way to catch public awareness about the topic.

But there is a problem. It seems to me that Microsoft is NOT what they are pretending; in terms of Phone development. If you go to sign-up on website, there is no option for countries like Bangladesh. Not only Bangladesh, many developed countries are not listed there. Then one friend from Microsoft told me about Microsoft Global Publisher Program and gave me the URL (ALAS I could not find the URL myself), the URL says that there is a company called App Port. According to that Microsoft URL, App Port is a third-party company that works with the developers of those Asia Pacific (APAC) countries where the Windows Phone Marketplace has not yet launched. App Port publishes developer applications under the Global Publisher’s name and Windows Phone Marketplace account. The company may also provide services such as application updates, resubmissions, device unlock, revenue payout, reporting, and customer support.

When I went to App Port’s website , the name appears on the site is App Exchange. I have no idea why the names are not same.

Other 3rd party sites do not have this problem. App Port/Exchange says Submission Fees, Unlocking Fees but do not say how much money they will take from each sell of your application. If you visit this MSDN site, it clearly says who is getting/paying what, but App Port do not say that.

Also App Port says nothing about free submission by the students. I visited other 3rd party sites and they are very professional and straight forward about the service. After roaming on App Port’s website I come to the conclusion that the site is a phishing website for the following reasons-

1. They do not have any Service Level Agreement. So if they removes your app from the market or do not pay you off, you cannot complain, cause there is no agreement.
2. They do not have any privacy policy. Means they will sell your sensitive information to anyone if they want to.
3. They do not say how you will get your money. So if your application is sold, they will not pay you back for your hard work. It’s all their property.
4. They site, even the sign-up page is not on SSL, which means anyone can hack your data while transferring to them.
5. The site is even not well developed. Looks like my 12 years old cousin developed that. Look at the FAQ page how necked ! The MSDN url is laying there.
6. The site says they got 300 developers. Really! Are they sick or blind?
7. You will find NO like to any Microsoft resource from the website.
8. I could not find any information anywhere that they are Microsoft’s official partner.

If you want to play, you can play with them. But my understanding is this site is very risky. I suggest you find a relative in USA/UK, do the development using that address. I used my uncle’s California address, submitted 2 applications on Windows Phone Market Place, 3 on iTunes Store and 4 on Android Market; and money is coming to my account like a charm. App Port is a phishing company. Don’t believe me, try your luck….

The hackers’ group posted it’s messages in the website (www.supremecourt.gov.bd) after removing the original contents. The message contains slang languages and solidarity towards Muslim hackers.

Another Bangladeshi hackers’ group “Bangladesh Cyber Army (BCA)” has been dishonored by this new group in the webpage. The Supreme Court IT team is working to get back the website. We recommend not to visit the hacked website. It could harm your PC.

Today I noticed a new scam circulation on Facebook. It’s about some video. It first take you to a Facebook. There you can see a image actually look like Youtube player. Then to gain access your account it ask to do a security scan ! When you press “continue” it takes over your profile and spread malicious link on your friends’ wall.

Please do not click any of those kinds of links. They can affect your PC and your Facebook profile. And specially escape anything about free product or secret 18+ video. You should always remember there is no free lunch in the world.
